How to increase EAP usage
Your EAP may be the most undervalued line in your benefits budget: almost everyone needs it at some point, and almost nobody uses it. That's not an awareness problem you can fix with another email campaign. It's a trust problem, a timing problem and a friction problem, and each one has a concrete fix.
Why usage gets stuck in single digits
Three things kill EAP usage, and they compound. First, doubt: employees aren't sure the service is truly anonymous, so the safest move is not to try. Second, timing: the moment someone actually needs support, the EAP is the last thing on their mind. The welcome email was months ago. Third, friction: whoever does try meets a phone line, a form, or a portal they've never seen before.
None of these are fixed by adding services to the catalog or printing better posters. A bigger catalog behind the same three walls is just a bigger unused catalog.
Trust first: anonymity people can believe
Employees don't act on promises of confidentiality; they act on anonymity they can verify. That means being able to explain, in one sentence, what the company can and cannot see, and having the architecture back it up.
This is the foundation Lazos is built on: everything personal stays in the employee's private space, and the employer only ever receives one aggregate, ranged metric. When people can feel that the door is locked from their side, they start opening up, and using what you already pay for.
Timing: recommend at the moment of need
A mass email in January can't help someone whose problem shows up in June. Usage happens when the recommendation arrives at the moment the need exists, not before and not after.
Because Lazos is the app employees already open every day to work on their relationships, it notices when something in your catalog could genuinely help (therapy, physiotherapy, financial guidance) and recommends it personally and confidentially, right then. Not a campaign: a well-timed nudge from a tool they already trust.
Friction: guide every activation end to end
Between “I should try this” and a booked first session, most programs lose almost everyone: a login nobody remembers, a PDF with a phone number, a form that asks questions people don't want to answer twice.
The fix is unglamorous but decisive: walk each person through activation step by step, inside the same conversation where the recommendation happened, until the benefit is actually in use. Zero portals, zero lost emails, zero dead ends.
Measure the lift with your provider's own reporting
You don't need a new dashboard to prove any of this is working. Your EAP provider already reports usage: the number that today embarrasses everyone. When recommendations arrive on time and activation is guided, that same report becomes your evidence: the uplift shows up where the spend already is.
From Lazos itself you'll only ever see one number: monthly active users, in ranges. Everything else stays where it belongs: with your employees.
